The numbers I have seen vary. The number I have been referencing is 82.5 %
are young, in good health, and have no behavioral problems. Less than 8%
have behavioral problems according to one study and 4% according to another.
In many cases it is hard to find the original reference.
I suggest we assign one of our research gurus to document the source of each of
these numbers we use, so we can be sure it is accurate. I was saying the
USDA says it is acceptable if 90% of slaughtered animals are properly stunned,
but the actual number turned out to be 95%.
Then I found out that in the last year in which counts were taken (1998), only
30% of the slaughter plants achieved this number.
Can we ask for a volunteer to be the archive of source documents that we need to
reference?
